Joy Kenya

Joy Kenya works in partnership with the local education district in Kenya to strengthen special education services within the existing public education system.

Through this partnership, Joy Kenya provides training and professional development for special education teachers working in schools under the district’s supervision. The training is designed to strengthen teachers’ practical knowledge and skills so that they can better understand and respond to the individual educational needs of students with disabilities.

Our work goes beyond classroom-based teacher training. Joy Kenya also visits special education classrooms in individual schools, observing the actual learning environment and providing practical guidance and support to teachers. Through these school visits, we are able to better understand the challenges teachers face and help them improve their teaching methods, classroom practices, and support for individual students.

By combining teacher training with ongoing on-site guidance, Joy Kenya seeks to build the capacity of local teachers rather than create a separate system.

Our goal is to develop a sustainable model in which local schools and local teachers are increasingly equipped to provide quality education for children with disabilities within their own communities.

We believe that strengthening teachers means strengthening schools—and strengthening schools creates a better future for children with disabilities.
